intentions
Rooted in Place. Built for Generations.
At Tikun Collective, we approach design as a tool for healing—of land, of community, of legacy. This project, in collaboration with Partners In Progress, is about more than housing. It’s about honoring local knowledge, building from the soil up, and investing in rural futures shaped by those who live there.
Partners In Progress works with rural organizations working in Haiti to strengthen the cultural, social, and environmental foundations that make communities whole. Their work centers equity, environmental health, and community self-determination. We’re proud to support their efforts by helping re-design a model home made of compressed earth block (CEB)—a locally sourced, natural material that reflects both the wisdom of the land and the aspirations of the people.
A Regenerative Approach to Shelter
This project began with a simple question:
What does it look like to build in a way that serves both people and planet—now and into the future?
Compressed earth block is an answer.
Partners In Progress imagines a rural future where everyone has what they need to thrive—and the tools to shape it themselves. Their mission to build sustainable communities in Haiti is grounded in values that resonate deeply with our own:
Toward a Living Future
We see this home not as a single object, but as a seed—something that can be grown, adapted, multiplied. It holds within it the story of a community reclaiming its right to shelter, to dignity, to design on its own terms.
We’re honored to walk alongside Partners In Progress as they continue cultivating the conditions for a thriving rural Haiti—where homes are resilient, futures are imagined collectively, and the materials beneath our feet become the foundations of something lasting.

*As of 7/3/25 due to geo-political conditions it's uncertain when this project will enter construction. We will post process and finished pictures as able.

A Regenerative Approach to Shelter
This project began with a simple question:
What does it look like to build in a way that serves both people and planet—now and into the future?
Compressed earth block is an answer.
- It reduces dependency on imported materials and by extension reduces costs for the project.
- It strengthens local economies through community-led fabrication and construction.
- It responds to Haiti’s climate—passively cooling, deeply rooted in place.
- And it reflects the values Partners In Progress lives by: equity, dignity, and interdependence.
- Support health and wealth generation for BIPOC communities
- Model environmental, social, and economic sustainability
- Reflect a shared ethic of wellness, justice, and partnership
- Serve as a replicable, community-driven framework for future housing
Partners In Progress imagines a rural future where everyone has what they need to thrive—and the tools to shape it themselves. Their mission to build sustainable communities in Haiti is grounded in values that resonate deeply with our own:
- Community capacity over outside control
- Local materials over extractive supply chains
- Equity over charity
- Futures shaped by the people who live them
